Ayurvedic advises on Choosing sex partners

Marriage and sexual life occupies a prominent place in the ancient science of life, Ayurveda.  According to this ancient science, to have a happier sexual life, partners should be selected based on certain physical qualities.  The Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita, explains that like food and sleep, sex too is very important for leading a happy life. However, it goes on to caution that if one exceeds natural sexual limits or has sex with animals or has perverted sex, it can have adverse effects on the mental and physical health on the person and may even kill him/her.

Size of the genital organs

Physical intimacy and sexual relationship between the partners plays an important role and is the most delicate aspect of human life.

Depending on the physical appearance of the genital organs, male and female partners are divided into three categories:

Male – Rabbit (small phallus), Bull (normal sized phallus) and Horse (large sized phallus)
Female – Doe (small genitals), Cow (normal sized genitals) and She–elephant (large genitals)

The ideal match for a satisfying sexual relationship is where the genital organs are well matched, that is ‘rabbit’ with ‘doe’, ‘bull’ with ‘cow’, and ‘horse’ with ‘she-elephant’ . The mismatch may lead not just to disorders but may lead to unhappier life too.

Female partners

Based on the social conditions, the different kinds of female partners who are fit for sexual relationships, according to Ayurvedic texts, are:

1.    Spinsters or unmarried women constitute the supreme category.
2.    Remarried women are considered to be ‘mediocre’ category sexual partners.
3.    Prostitutes form the lowest category of sexual partners.

Male partners

Ayurvedic texts do not distinguish between educated and an uneducated man as far as sexual relationships is concerned. An educated man is not considered a ‘gentleman’ unless he has a legitimate wife. This is because Ayurveda gives primary importance to marriage and sexual life.

Spice up your sex life with Ayurveda

“No Interest in Sex” / “Mechanical sex”/ “boring sex” – these are the common statements I come across from my patients from the age of 32-42 especially from working couples and women suffering from early hormonal imbalances and menopause. Most of them do not realize that sex is not just for physical happiness but it also plays a vital role in health, wellness and psychological wellbeing. One of recent surveys says that working couples who have sex more than twice a week is much happier, healthier and wiser than who does not.

Ayurveda, the science of life advises three elements as important mediums to sustain life viz Food, sleep and sex. These three sustaining life elements play a vital role in health, happiness and wellness.  Ayurveda supposed to be the first organized medical system to talk about sexology which talks much more than the today’s sexology.

Vajikarana – The Ayurveda sexology talks in detail about choosing sexual partner, pre and post sexual regimens, attaining a healthy progeny, different types of mood spice up ideas and methods for couples and more importantly health and wellness aspects of sexual life and sex therapies. This specialized department of Ayurveda addresses the problems of both men and women related to infertility and all kinds of physical, physiological and psychological reproductive systemic problems.

Vajikarana basically comprises of Three components— A Disciplined Life Style, Planned Sexual Act and lastly, The use of Vajikarana Drugs (Aphrodisiac Medicinal Formulations) to achieve these Sexual Goals. This particular branch of Ayurveda has stressed on increasing Will Power and on holding the (Sukra Dhatu) Semen for a longer time. Sukra Dhatu is directly linked with good Health and Celibacy is equated with high Morality. To summarize, Vajikarana Chikitsa (Aphrodisiac Medicines, Anabolic Drugs and Tonics) deals with Sexuality. It talks about Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Diet and Medicines involved in Sex. It states that Sex should be fenced by rules and regulations in order to maintain good Health and produce good Progeny.

Ayurveda therapies to improve sexual life (Both men and women)
This department of Ayurveda talks about various personalized therapies to improve sexual desire and pleasure for both men and women and for healthy progeny.
Ayurveda recommends a specialized 14 day ritual for men and women to improve the reproductive health before marriage and before planning a health progeny. The first seven day therapy includes Abhyangam, Pizhichil and medicated enema and second 7 day therapy include Navara Kizhi and Mamsa Navara Kizhi for men.

For women and first seven days therapies are same. Medicated oils are selected based on the ten essential factors of Ayurveda. Second seven days therapies for women is more a treatment inclusive of Abhyangam, herbal steam pack, herbal milk wash etc.  Ayurveda, the science of life recommends these therapies once in 3 years to spice up the sexual life.
